While Cyclachaena xanthiifolia Fresen. and Iva xanthiifolia Nutt. have sometimes been treated as homotypic synonyms, Fresenius made no direct or indirect reference to Iva xanthiifolia or to Nuttall in his publication (Pruski, 2005); thus, the two are heterotypic synonyms at most, and the previous citation of the author as Cyclachaena xanthiifolia (Nutt.) Fresen. was in error
