Originally described as Schmardaella hylae by Goodchild (1951), this species was later transferred to the genus Dero (and at that time placed in the subgenus Allodero Sperber, 1948) by Walter J. Harman (1971), who later reaffirmed this transfer (Harman 1973) with additional diagnosis
