No explaination is given in Cutler & Cutler (1987:749) or Cutler (1994:73) as to why the older name Phascolosoma pudicum Selenka 1885 does not take priority over Phascolosoma ohlini Théel 1911 in the name of the subspecies known as Golfingia margaritacea ohlini (Théel 1911). The former work notes that although the name has also been used for an Apionsoma species, Selenka's taxon is a population that intergrades with G. margaritacea in the area where ohlini is found
