Gymnophthalmus pleii: Comments
Comment:
Originally spelled as 'Gymnophthalmus Pleii', the epithet represented the voyager Plée (p. 473), so it may look like a spelling error (if one assumes it was formed under ICZN Art. 31.1.2, where a single i is to be added to the stem, and that an error was made in laying out the pages). However, if the name was Latinized to Pleius (with final E elided, rather than using Pleeius), the stem would be plei-, and the final epithet would be pleii. We cannot therefore treat the original name as an inadvertent error (Art. 32.5.1), and must instead accept the correct original spelling as pleii. As a result, 'correcting' this to pleei would be an unjustified emendation
