Status: IUCN - Lower Risk (lc) as Oryzomys intectus

Comments: A species whose distinctive traits have confusingly invoked its past association with Oryzomys balneator or Melanomys (Gyldenstolpe, 1932), Nectomys (Ellerman, 1941), or the subgenus Oryzomys (Cabrera, 1961). Reallocated to Handleyomys and compared with H. fuscatus by Voss et al. (2002)
