Comment:
According to Bockmann and Ferraris (2005), Imparales mariai (the type species of Imparales) should be recognized in Nemuroglanis, and thus the genus Imparales should not be recognized. Imparales panamensis "was found to be part of another clade within the Nemuroglanis subclade that includes Chasmocranus, Pariolius, and Phenacorhamdia." Until further research resolves the generic placement of Imparales panamensis Bussing 1970, this species is treated as incertae sedis in the Heptapteridae
