Ramazzotti (1966) apparently original described baicalensis as a "variety", which (as a post-1960 name) under the current edition of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (1999) is deemed to be "infrasubspecific" and as such is excluded. Since the original description has not been examined with reference to this possibility, it is unclear whether or not this is the case at this time. More research is needed on this
