Comment:
Bent (1912) identified the Newfoundland subspecies of Red Crossbill and named it Loxia curvirostra percna. In 1934 van Rossem synomized percna under pusilla when concluding pusilla Gloger, 1834 specimens were morphologically matched to specimens from Newfoundland even though the pusilla type came from the state of Georgia (USA). Payne (1987) concluded percna is a distinct form, and not a synonym of pusilla
