Comments: Subgenus Nannomys. Occurs sympatrically with M. minutoides and M. setulosus, morphology closely similar to species in the M. sorella group (Vermeiren and Verheyen, 1980). The diagnostic traits reported for M. baoulei by Vermeiren and Verheyen (1980) are those that set M. sorella apart from other species of Mus (Verheyen, 1965a).
