Allen (1939) and Ellerman (1941), but subsequently included in Colomys by Hayman (1966) and most checklists published after his report covering African rodents, including the revision of Colomys by Dieterlen (1983) in which plumbeus was maintained as a subspecies of C. goslingi, the allocation recommended by Hayman (1966).
