Comment:
Nomina Insecta Nearctica (1996) lists the original orthography of the genus as Onthotomicus Ferrari 1867, but notes that the original author emended this to the currently-used spelling, Orthotomicus in 1869. Nomina Insecta Nearctica states that 'by the standards of this check list there is no such thing as a justifiable emendation,' although this is not the standard under which ITIS operates. Current literature exclusively uses 'Orthotomicus,' and no mention is found of Onthotomicus, other than in Nomina Insecta Nearctica
