Comment:
Unresolved priority issue shown by Platnick (2012, online World Spider Catalog v12.5). Both Oxyopes variabilis dorsivittata Strand, 1906 and Oxyopes variabilis nigriventris Strand, 1906 are treated as conspecific with Oxyopes embriki Roewer, 1951 (as subspecies therein), yet both are senior to the species name. If this placement is accepted, then according to priority the species should be known as either Oxyopes dorsivittatus Strand, 1906 or Oxyopes nigriventris Strand, 1906 (choice of First Reviser, ICZN Art. 24.2). However, Platnick (pers. comm. 10/2011) avoids introducing nomenclatural changes regarding subspecies in the catalog unless/until those issues are addressed in the modern literature
