Comment:
Nelson (1994) notes that Parabrotulidae "has been throught to be related to the zoarcids, which in turn have been variously placed with the paracanthopterygians or perciforms." Moore et al. (2003) also note this uncertainty. Nielsen et al. (1999) also note the controversy, but conclude, "until more research has shown the proper placement of the Parabrotulidae we exclude them from the Ophidiiformes"
