Although listed as a valid species of Parascorpaena by Shiino (1976), which is why this name was added to the NODC Taxonomic Code (and thus to ITIS), Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2005) provides no current name for the original, Scorpaena erostris Alcock 1896. More work is evidently needed to clarify the current status
