Sanicula maritima: Comments
Comment:
US ESA: Potential candidate without sufficient data on vulnerability, as published in Federal Register Volume 58, Number 188, Pages 51144 - 51190, September 30, 1993
Comment:
The status category of PE (Proposed Endangered) on page 51184 of the September 30, 1993 Notice of Review (NOR) is presumably an error. Sanicula maritima had a status of Category 2 (Taxa Without Sufficient Data on Vulnerability) in the 1983 supplement to the plant NOR, and remained in that category in the September 27, 1985 and February 21, 1990 NOR. The absence of Sanicula maritima in the February 28, 1996 NOR indicates it was treated as a category 2 species when 'Category 2 Candidates' were dropped from the NOR. Because there is no other evidence indicating Sanicula maritima was ever proposed endangered, it is treated as a Category 2 taxon in the 1993 NOR
