Comments: Recognized as a subspecies of nigrita (when nigrita was used for the species now called dinganii) by Hayman and Hill (1971). However, C. B. Robbins et al. (1985) considered it specifically distinct from dinganii and borbonicus. Reviewed by Peterson et al. (1995), who also considered it to be distinct
