The Checklist of North American Butterflies, 2nd Edition (2001) lists this as a "Neotropical species dubiously reported to have occurred naturally in the United States"
Comment:
Concerning North American records that are attributable to another species, Pelham (2008:431) notes of Smyrna karwinskii Geyer, [1833], "All records from North America apparently represent misidentifications of Smyrna blomfildia (Fabricius, 1781). See Kendall and McGuire (1984: p. 36-37)"
