Hasle and Syvertsen (1997) place this genus in the Stellarmiaceae. Addition of this family to ITIS will require a substantial reorganization of the diatom hierarchy. For the moment, ITIS will retain this genus in the family suggested by Hasle and Sims (1986), Heliopeltaceae
