Comment:
This species was originally described as Naidium ? trivandranum by K.S.P. Aiyer (1926), from soft mud in an old tank in Trivandrum, India; soon after, he was able to culture this species, which resulted in sexually mature specimens; he then published his observations (Aiyer, 1929), in which he established a new genus, Stephensonia, into which he placed trivandrana as its only species. Later, Cernosvitov (1938, p. 539), in his report on the oligochaetes of Palestine, noted that the name Stephensonia was preoccupied (Insecta, Aphididae), so he proposed the new genus name, Stephensoniana, with trivandrana as the type species.
