In her revision of the genera Tubifex Lamarck, Ilyodrilus Eisen, and Potamothrix Vejdovský & Mrázek, Holmquist (1985) established the new genus Tasserkidrilus, with Tasserkidrilus americanus (Brinkhurst & Cook, 1966) as its type species (= the former taxon Tubifex kessleri americanus Brinkhurst & Cook, 1966); Holmquist (1985) provided no augmentation (no additional discussion) regarding this new genus. Timm (1989) revised the genus Tasserkidrilus, Kathman and Brinkhurst (1998) added additional discussion on species in this genus, and Timm (2006) summarized the storied short history of taxa in this genus, and (in this 2006 paper) placed Varichaetidrilus harmani (originally Tubifex harmani) into the genus Tasserkidrilus
