Comments: Subgenus Thomomys. Formerly included idahoensis and clusius; see Thaeler (1972) and Thaeler and Hinesley (1979). Partial revision by V. E. Bailey (1915) and Thaeler (1985). The considerable degree of chromosomal differentiation among geographic representatives of this form (Thaeler, 1985) suggests that more than one biological species is currently included under the name talpoides.
