Comment:
The correct spelling of the epithet of this taxon is in doubt. It honors Mr. and Mrs. D. Joaquín Otero, and so the grammatical gender must be plural. However, because the wife does not customarily adopt the husband's surname in Spain, an epithet that honors two Oteros is not technically correct (see Etymology note in Reptile Database, 2021). For the moment, ITIS follows Uetz et al. (Reptile Database, as of 5/2021) in retaining the original epithet formation
