Comments: Phascolomyidae Goldfuss, 1820, is based on Phascolomis, a junior synonym (Haltenorth, 1958:32). Because Phascolomyidae was replaced with Vombatidae before 1961, and because Vombatidae has won general acceptance, it is to be maintained (Art. 40.2 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, 1999)
