Hunt (1987, 1989, 1998), McKenna and Bell (1997), Hunt and Tedford (1993), Flynn and Nedbal (1998), and Veron and Heard (2000) argued that Nandinia should be placed in a monotypic family based on the plesiomorphic condition of its auditory bullae (Pohle, 1920b).
