Comment:
In the online Catalog of Fishes (2004), Eschmeyer treats the species Svetovidovia lucullus as valid, but notes that the status of the genus is uncertain. Some authors have treated it as valid, others have it as "questionably a synonym of Laemonema". Additionally, under the entry for Gargilius, Eschmeyer notes the following, "Type by subsequent designation. Type designated by Cohen 1973:326 [ref. 6589], but that designation invalid as genus established after 1930 without type fixation. Appeared first without description in Jensen in Schmidt 1906:177 and Holt & Byrne 1908:58 [ref. 6487]. Preccupied by Gargilius Faimaire 1891 in Insecta, replaced by Svetovidovia Cohen 1973, but since Gargilius was not available it cannot be replaced; Svetovidovia stands on its own with type by original designation (also monotypic). Questionably a synonym of Laemonema Günther 1862 -- (Meléndez C. & Markle 1997:624 [ref. 23369])"
