Phonetic Spelling:ah-DEE-nah roo-BEL-lah

Genus:Adina

Species:rubella

Family:Rubiaceae

Adina rubella, commonly known as Chinese Buttonbush, is a deciduous shrub celebrated for its striking flowers and attractive foliage. This species is one of eleven within the Adina genus, characterized by its glossy dark green leaves that emerge late in the season, creating a reflective quality. While it shares similarities with the native Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis), Adina rubella is noted for its smaller leaves and spherical flower clusters.

This shrub thrives in moist environments, often found along the banks of streams, in ditches, and around ponds, as well as on the sandy shores of China. Interestingly, despite its preference for wet conditions, it is one of the few shrubs capable of thriving in dry, shaded areas.

Regarding pests and diseases, Adina rubella is fortunate to have no significant issues affecting its health.
