Plant Profile: Arundo donax

This ornamental grass gradually expands through rhizomes and displays bronze foliage when exposed to freezing temperatures. It is the tallest among its kind and has a bamboo-like appearance with gracefully curved leaves. While it thrives in full sunlight, it can also manage in partial shade and adapts well to various soil types, demonstrating drought resistance. Smaller specimens are suitable for container gardening, but it flourishes best at the edges of expansive water gardens, within rain gardens, or as a backdrop in garden borders due to its impressive height. However, be mindful that it can spread vigorously through both rhizomes and self-seeding.
