'Nana' is a true dwarf variety of Hinoki Cypress, characterized by its dark green foliage that forms twisting, fan-shaped branchlets arranged in dense, tiered layers. When crushed, the leaves emit a sweet fragrance. As it matures, this cultivar develops into a compact, flattened globe with branches that extend horizontally.
This plant grows very slowly, typically reaching only about 8 inches in height after a decade. Ultimately, it can attain a height of 3 feet and a width of 4 feet. The cones are short-stalked, solitary, and globose, measuring between 1/3 to 2/5 inches in diameter, with an orange-brown hue and eight scales. Its petite size makes it an excellent choice for small-scale landscaping, such as rock gardens, troughs, and container gardens.
For optimal growth, it should be planted in well-drained, moist soil and positioned in full sun to partial shade.
