The Rabbit's Foot Fern is an epiphytic species that thrives in tropical climates. It is particularly suited for growth in containers or hanging baskets, where its fuzzy rhizomes can gracefully cascade over the edges, producing fronds at various points along the way.
This fern exhibits a greater tolerance for low humidity compared to many other fern varieties, although it still appreciates occasional misting. It’s important to keep the soil mixture consistently moist, allowing the top half-inch to dry out between waterings. For optimal growth, use a peat-based soil and ensure it receives ample indirect light, with temperatures maintained above 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
For propagation, take cuttings of the rhizome tips measuring 2 to 3 inches, ensuring that one or two fronds remain attached. Position the cuttings on a suitable potting medium and secure them with a small wire loop. After moistening the medium, place the container inside a plastic bag in a brightly lit area. You’ll know the cuttings have successfully rooted when you observe new fronds beginning to develop.
This fern was previously classified under the family Davalliaceae.
