Meander is a cultivar of the native persimmon tree, developed by the late Elwin Meader at the University of New Hampshire to be self-pollinating. In the absence of pollination, it produces seedless fruit. Its foliage remains visually appealing throughout the year, showcasing vibrant red and yellow hues in the fall.
The fruits, which are about the size of apricots, boast a deep orange color and a delightful sweetness. Like all persimmons, they reach their peak ripeness following a frost. This species is quite versatile, thriving in poor, dry soils, although it prefers moist, well-drained average soil.
