Genus:Drosera
Species:capillaris
Family:Droseraceae
The Pink Sundew is a native plant that can be classified as either an annual or a short-lived perennial, typically found in wet, peaty pine savannas. While it is generally regarded as an annual, it has the potential to thrive throughout the winter if kept in a warm, well-lit environment, such as a greenhouse or indoors. Although it is not particularly sensitive to frost, it cannot withstand severe, extended frosts. This plant can survive for several years if its flowering is prevented; simply trim the flower stalks as they emerge to inhibit blooming. If it does flower, be sure to collect the seeds promptly, as the plant will either die or begin to decline after blooming.
Belonging to the sundew family, which consists of carnivorous herbs, the Pink Sundew is a small, low-growing plant characterized by its rounded traps and sticky tentacles. Despite its modest size, it can develop into large, robust rosettes.
When placed in full sunlight, the entire plant takes on a vibrant red hue. In contrast, in shadier conditions, the leaves will exhibit a greenish tint with red tentacles.
This plant is particularly well-suited for terrariums. To cultivate it, simply place the Pink Sundew in a small pot and set that pot in a tray filled with water.
