Species:subcostata
Family:Lythraceae
This variety of Crepe Myrtle, native to Yakushima Island in Japan, resembles a tree and boasts striking white blossoms along with stunning copper-hued bark. It serves as one of the foundational species for the "Indian Tribe" hybrids, which include the widely favored 'Natchez,' developed by the U.S. National Arboretum. Compared to L. indica, this Crepe Myrtle exhibits greater cold tolerance while also withstanding heat.
For optimal growth, plant it in a bright, sunny area with well-drained soil, ensuring there is ample space to showcase its distinctive peeling copper trunks.
