Genus:Miscanthus
Species:sinensis
Family:Poaceae
Eulalia is a highly adaptable ornamental grass belonging to the Poaceae family. It features slender green leaves that transform into striking shades of copper-red and orange in the fall. This resilient plant can withstand drought, erosion, dry soil conditions, and air pollution. It serves well as an accent piece, a specimen plant, or when grouped in small clusters along borders, in meadows, cottage gardens, naturalized settings, and water gardens. Its silvery-white dried flowers are not only visually appealing but also have a long-lasting presence.
For maintenance, cut the grass back to the ground in late winter or early spring. Clumps can be divided in spring before new growth begins.
In terms of pests and diseases, established Eulalia plants typically face few issues. However, the Miscanthus mealybug and miscanthus blight are increasingly prevalent. The mealybug can stunt growth and is challenging to eliminate since it resides within the stems. Miscanthus blight, a fungal infection, targets the blades and sheaths, and leaf rust may also be a concern.
This plant bears resemblance to Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus.'
