Kurt Bluemel, a former nurseryman, named the Miscanthus sinensis var. condensatus 'Cabaret.' This particular variety was discovered in Japan by Kokin Watanabe and later cultivated and donated to the U.S. National Arboretum by Masato Yokoi. 'Cabaret' is characterized by its tall, densely tufted growth, typically reaching heights of 6 to 9 feet. It features a striking foliage clump with a creamy white center surrounded by broad dark green margins, although some individual stems may revert to green. Notably, this plant does not self-seed. Additionally, without protection from harsh weather conditions, it may struggle to survive in USDA zone 5.
