Plant Profile: Platanthera ciliaris

This perennial species is indigenous to the eastern and southern regions of our county. Unfortunately, it is becoming harder to locate in the northern fringes of its natural habitat due to various threats such as ecological succession, plant harvesting, roadside maintenance, and alterations in water management. Typically, it thrives in small clusters. Its natural environments include peaty or moist areas, dry uplands, meadows, sandy woodlands, thickets, slopes, and roadside areas.
