Julia Child had a deep appreciation for cooking with genuine butter, and this award-winning rose serves as a delightful reminder of one of our beloved culinary icons. Bred in 2004 by Tom Carruth, this stunning buttery yellow bloom was personally selected by Julia Child to carry her name before her passing.
Featuring 35 elegantly ruffled petals, these fully double flowers produce a continuous display from late spring through fall, exuding a delightful scent reminiscent of licorice and clove. With its backdrop of glossy green leaves, this rose is sure to enhance any garden.
For optimal growth, it thrives in rich, fertile soil that retains moisture. To promote the best flowering, apply a balanced fertilizer in late winter or early spring, and again in early summer. Additionally, mulching in late winter will help maintain moisture levels, but be sure to remove the mulch in spring.
Water the plant regularly in the morning, taking care to prevent waterlogging.
With its compact and rounded growth habit, this rose makes an excellent choice for container gardening. In warmer regions, 'Julia Child' can reach heights of up to 5 feet and can even be cultivated as a small tree.
This low-maintenance variety requires minimal care; however, light pruning will help preserve its rounded shape and encourage further branching. Regular deadheading will also promote additional blooms.
In 2006, this rose was honored with the All-America Rose Selection, the highest accolade for roses in the United States. It also received the Best of the Best award in 2010 and the Gold Star of the South Pacific in 2011.
There are no significant issues with insects, diseases, or other plant problems reported.
