Family:Oleaceae
The Amur lilac can be cultivated as either a sizable shrub or a petite tree. Its bark is glossy and tends to peel on the younger branches. While it bears a close resemblance to the Japanese Tree Lilac (Syringa reticulata subsp. reticulata), the bark of the latter is somewhat more reddish and exhibits a darker brown hue. Additionally, the Amur lilac has a more rounded and broader form compared to the Japanese Tree Lilac, which tends to be larger and displays a more pronounced tree-like structure.
This plant is quite adaptable to various soil pH levels, though it thrives best in neutral soil that ranges from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline. Optimal flowering and enhanced disease resistance are achieved when it is planted in full sunlight, in well-drained soil with adequate air circulation. The Amur lilac typically flowers from late spring to early summer.
