Phonetic Spelling:TRIL-ee-um VAS-ee-eye

Genus:Trillium

Species:vaseyi

Family:Melanthiaceae

Vasey's Trillium is a perennial wildflower indigenous to the southern Appalachian Mountains in the southeastern United States. This species thrives in cove forests, along stream banks, and in areas with rich, moist soil. It is often mistaken for Trillium erectum; however, its flowers droop between the whorled leaves. The dark red, nodding blooms can reach up to 4 inches in diameter and emit a foul odor, making them some of the largest among Trilliums. For optimal growth, plant them in partial to full shade in humus-rich, moist soil. Typically, Trilliums enter dormancy by mid-summer.

Regarding pests and diseases, Vasey's Trillium faces no significant threats. Occasionally, slugs and snails may pose a problem, and it can experience issues with leaf spot, rust, and smut. Additionally, this plant does not transplant easily.
