'Emerald Triumph' is a hybrid resulting from the cross of Viburnum 'Allegheny' and V. burejaeticum. This deciduous shrub features multiple stems and exhibits a generally rounded shape. Notably, it demonstrates superior tolerance to clay soils compared to other viburnum varieties. With a compact growth habit, it typically reaches heights and widths of 6 to 8 feet. In the spring, it produces striking clusters of creamy white flowers, which give way to red drupes that mature to black by fall. The presence of other viburnums nearby enhances its fruit production.
For optimal growth, plant 'Emerald Triumph' in well-drained clay or sandy loam soils, ideally in full sun to partial shade. While it thrives in moist conditions, it can withstand some drought once established.
This versatile shrub can be utilized as a foundation plant, in shrub borders, as a hedge, or as a standalone specimen in groupings. Its flowers attract butterflies, and during winter, birds will feed on the drupes after they have softened through freeze-thaw cycles.
