Phonetic Spelling:vy-BUR-num ry-ti-do-FIL-um
Genus:Viburnum
Species:rhytidophyllum
Family:Viburnaceae
The 'Cree' variety was developed from open-pollinated seeds sourced from V. rhytidophyllum, which originated from a specimen found in China. While it shares similarities with its parent species, 'Cree' is notably more compact and was introduced to the market in 1994. This evergreen to semi-evergreen shrub is characterized by its fairly upright, multi-stemmed, and dense growth, typically reaching heights of 8 feet and widths of 6 to 8 feet, with a slow growth rate. In May, it produces striking flat-topped cymes, which are followed by red fruits that ripen to a nearly black hue and may remain on the plant throughout the winter.
For optimal growth, plant 'Cree' in well-drained, average moist acidic soils, and position it in areas with full sun to partial shade. It serves well as a foundation plant, in shrub borders, or as a hedge.
