Sargent Viburnum is a decorative shrub native to Asia, typically reaching heights and widths of 12 to 15 feet. It thrives in a variety of soil types but struggles in high heat conditions. This shrub features a rounded, upright growth habit and flourishes in average, well-drained soils with adequate moisture. Ideally, it prefers full sun to partial shade, especially in cooler summer regions. Its striking flowers, which form flat-topped cymes measuring 3 to 4 inches across, give way to dark red drupes that can remain on the plant throughout the winter. The leaves, which are divided into three lobes, display beautiful yellow to red hues in the fall.
This versatile shrub can be utilized as a hedge, incorporated into shrub borders, planted in groups, or showcased as a standalone specimen.
However, be aware that aphids can pose a significant challenge for this plant.
