Comment:
John Epler's comments follow: Hendel's 1908 paper that uncovered the existence of the two Meigen papers (1800 and 1803) in which Meigen first described Tendipes and Pelopia. He later (1803) called them Chironomus and Tanypus. Opinion 678 of the ICZN suppressed the names from 1800 (Tendipes and Pelopia) and also recommended that the family, subfamily and tribe names be based on Meigen's 1803 work, not the 1800 paper. Hence the use of Tanypus not Pelopia.
