Genus:Acer
Species:cappadocicum
Family:Sapindaceae
Acer cappadocium is a deciduous tree characterized by its rounded crown, found in mixed forests stretching from Turkey to the Caucasus, the Himalayas, and southwestern China. Typically, it reaches heights of 35 feet and widths of 25 feet, though in its natural habitat, it can grow as tall as 60 to 80 feet. Unlike many other maple species, this tree often produces root suckers at its base, leading to the formation of extensive groves over time.
Preferred growing conditions include full sun or partial shade, and while it can adapt to various soil types, it thrives best in acidic soils. Its native distribution ranges from northern Turkey to Pakistan, and it is relatively rare in North America.
