Phonetic Spelling:ah-glah-oh-NAY-mah moh-DES-tum

Genus:Aglaonema

Species:modestum

Family:Araceae

This perennial herb, known for its vibrant tropical foliage, is an excellent choice for both indoor houseplants and outdoor container gardening. It features dark green stems and large leaves that can grow up to 10 inches long, often displaying variegation. When cultivated indoors, the Aglaonema genus thrives in well-diffused light but can also adapt to lower light conditions. A quality potting mix is essential for its growth; ensure the soil dries out between waterings, but not for more than a day or two, and avoid using cold water. This plant is sensitive to cold temperatures, ideally flourishing in a daytime range of 70°F to 80°F. While it can be grown outdoors in warmer climates, it requires shade for protection.

Flowers are rarely observed; when they do appear, they consist of a spadix encased in a spathe. To promote healthier foliage, it is advisable to remove any flowers or fruits.

Be aware that soil-borne nematodes and mites may pose challenges for this plant.
