Swamp Cyrilla, commonly known as Titi, is a tree that can be classified as evergreen, semi-evergreen, or tardily deciduous. It is indigenous to the southeastern region of North America and is found in coastal areas and the Piedmont of North Carolina. While it may initially appear shrubby, it matures into a small tree characterized by twisted branches, smooth, cinnamon-hued bark in its youth, and flaky bark as it ages. The tree produces striking clusters of white flowers in the summer and showcases vibrant orange-red foliage in the fall, making it an attractive addition to any home landscape. Additionally, it serves as a valuable resource for pollinators and birds, enhancing the local ecosystem.

Titi thrives in moist to wet, well-drained sandy loam rich in organic matter, preferring full sun to partial shade. It can also adapt to drier conditions, provided that sufficient moisture is available during dry spells. This tree can form thickets that offer shelter for wildlife, particularly in wetland areas.

Consider planting Titi as a focal point in your garden, in a native plant landscape, or near ponds, streams, bogs, or other wet environments. Fortunately, Titi is not prone to significant insect or disease issues.
