Phonetic Spelling:ep-ih-MEE-dee-um BY ver-sih-KOL-or sul-FER-ee-um

Genus:Epimedium

Species:

Family:Berberidaceae

Bicolor Barrenwort is a ground cover that thrives in shaded areas, creating lovely clusters of heart-shaped leaves that transition from reddish in spring to green in summer and back to reddish in fall. This plant typically reaches a height of up to 1 foot and can spread between 1 to 1.5 feet.

It prefers light to moderate shade and flourishes in medium-moist, well-drained soil that is either average or enriched with organic matter. Once established, it demonstrates drought resistance and propagates through rhizomes. In mid to late spring, it produces vibrant yellow flowers that bloom in clusters.

This versatile plant is ideal for use in shady woodland gardens, rock gardens, along pathways, in shady borders, or beneath trees and shrubs. To promote healthy growth, trim the foliage in late winter before the flowers emerge.
