Family:Berberidaceae
Snowy Barrenwort serves as an excellent ground cover for shaded areas, reaching heights of 6 to 8 inches and spreading between 1 to 1.5 feet. Its heart-shaped leaves create appealing clusters, showcasing a vibrant red streak in spring, transitioning to green in summer, and taking on a bronze-red hue in the fall. In mid to late spring, clusters of pure white flowers emerge on striking red stems. This plant propagates through rhizomes.
It thrives in garden soil that ranges from moist to dry, ideally enriched, and prefers part to full shade. Once established, it demonstrates drought resistance. To promote healthy growth, trim the foliage in late winter before new shoots begin to emerge.
This versatile plant is perfect for woodland gardens, shady pathways, beneath trees, or in rock gardens.
