Genus:Euphorbia

Species:epithymoides

Family:Euphorbiaceae

Cushion Spurge is a perennial herb that typically grows in a rounded, cushion-like shape, making it an excellent choice for ground cover. This plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and favors well-drained, light-textured soils that are sandy or gravelly. While some afternoon shade can be advantageous during the hot southern summers, excessive shade may lead to a leggy appearance, detracting from its characteristic cushion form.

In the spring, the plant produces modest flowers that are encircled by striking yellow bracts, measuring about an inch in diameter, and these blooms cluster at the tips of the stems. As fall approaches, the foliage takes on a reddish hue. When fully grown, Cushion Spurge typically forms a mound and can spread up to 18 inches wide. For optimal growth, it is advisable to space the plants 14 to 20 inches apart. This species is also drought-resistant and tends to self-seed, so it is beneficial to remove spent flowers to encourage a tidy appearance.

Caution is advised when handling this plant, as its milky sap can be harmful to the skin and eyes; therefore, wearing gloves and eye protection is essential.

Regarding pests and diseases, Cushion Spurge is generally resilient and does not face significant issues from insects or diseases.
