Exochorda, commonly referred to as Pearlbush, is a genus of deciduous shrubs native to China and Korea. This plant is prized for its stunning white blossoms and appealing growth habit. The flower buds, which resemble white pearls, give rise to its popular name. Pearlbush is a resilient and reliable species that bursts into bloom with pearl-like buds and delicate petals at the onset of spring.

Exochorda giraldii, which is also known as Exochorda racemosa, is a deciduous tree that takes on a shrub-like appearance. According to Kew Gardens, it is classified as a subspecies of Exochorda racemosa. This plant thrives in a variety of well-drained soils, preferring moderate moisture levels and full sun to partial shade. Once established, it can withstand heat and drought conditions. The flowers develop on the previous year's growth, so it is advisable to prune lightly after the blooming period.

While this species is considered invasive in certain states, it is not currently listed as such in North Carolina.
