Phonetic Spelling:JEE-um ka-na-DEN-see

Genus:Geum

Species:canadense

Family:Roseaceae

White Avens is a perennial groundcover native to the rose family, commonly found in woodlands and thickets. It can be effectively used in a woodland garden or as an alternative to traditional lawns in low-traffic areas, thriving even when mowed. For optimal growth, mow the plants weekly during their flowering period and monthly afterward, keeping the height at 4 inches or more. Although it can reach heights of up to 4 feet, it generally maintains a more modest height of around 18 inches. This plant does not grow densely, so it won't create a thick layer of foliage. While it prefers shaded environments, it can also adapt to sunnier locations.

The foliage remains visually appealing throughout the winter, making it a great backdrop in container arrangements. In particularly dry summers, it may require additional watering. Seeds are spread by animals or humans, as they cling to fur or clothing. For propagation, collect seeds in June or allow them to self-sow naturally.
